In Speed Skating
The AS22 is often referred to as a polishing burr stone and is used after sharpening to remove the wire edge (burr) left on the blade. This helps achieve a smoother, faster edge and improves skating performance.
Typical Procedure
- Sharpen the blade with the sharpening jig and stone.
- Lightly pass the AS22 along both sides of the blade to remove the burr.
- Make a few very light finishing strokes to polish the edge.
- Clean the blade and stone after use.
The AS22 is considered one of the standard finishing stones used by competitive speed skaters because of its ability to remove burrs cleanly without noticeably rounding the blade edge.
